FAQ

Common
questions.

Have more questions? Contact our team or call (425) 821-7289.

What is CAT 1 testing and how often is it required? +

CAT 1 (Category 1) is annual safety testing required for all elevators. It verifies that safety devices, emergency stops, and operational systems function correctly. We perform all required tests and provide documentation for your AHJ.

What is CAT 5 testing? +

CAT 5 (Category 5) is comprehensive five-year testing that includes full-load and no-load safety tests, verifying critical safety systems under actual operating conditions. It's more extensive than annual CAT 1 testing.

What commonly causes inspection failures? +

Overdue testing (CAT 1/CAT 5/shunt trip), safety device issues (governors, safeties, buffers), door system problems (restrictors, interlocks), firefighter operation failures, machine room condition issues, and missing documentation are the most common violations.

Do you handle shunt trip testing? +

Yes. We perform annual shunt trip testing to verify that your elevator's fire alarm interface works correctly, ensuring elevators respond properly to fire conditions.

Can you help us prepare for an upcoming inspection? +

Absolutely. We perform pre-inspection assessments to identify and correct issues before the official inspection. We also coordinate scheduling with inspectors and are present during the review to answer technical questions.
